Stop what you’re doing: this is important, that is If you’re interested in looking more like Beyonce in your day to day life. Her makeup artist Sir John recently chatted with Elle magazine, sharing some of his top beauty secrets. In case you were wondering, Sir John is responsible for creating the looks for eight of Beyonce’s music videos in her recently released visual album, as well as all of the looks on her Mrs. Carter tour. So to say that he knows a thing or two about how to make a girl look good would be an understatement. Here are some of Sir John’s must-follow beauty tips:
Take Care of Your Skin: No matter how good you are with makeup, if you’re not taking proper care of your face, there really is no way you can hide it. “I’m a huge skin care freak. Go get a facial. Give yourself an oatmeal mask at home. There’s no way to mask bad skin,” Sir John said. When it comes to Beyonce’s flawless complexion, Sir John’s secret is keeping things sheer and light. “I keep her makeup as sheer as possible. She’s a girly girl but she does not like a lot of foundation. I try to make sure the skin underneath is perfect and everything else is the icing on the cake.” He also suggests using a monthly enzyme peel to keep your face fresh.
Use Lip gloss on Your Eyes: Sir John is a huge proponent of lip color, so long as it’s matte. When it comes to lip gloss, he prefers using it on the eyes, not the lips. It’s great for adding an extra twinkle to your eyeshadow. All you need is a waterproof eyeshadow and some lip gloss (or Elizabeth Arden’s 8 Hour Cream). After applying the eyeshadow, add a little bit of lip gloss to give your lid a wonderful sheen.
Wear a Bold Lip: Whether it’s radiant orchid, orange or red, you should always dress your pout in something bold. If you want to rock the vibrant magenta on your lips, just remember “to use lip liner to tone down and warm up the edges.” If you want to rock an orange lip, make sure you’ve got some bronzer or a base tan to help you look more naturally flushed. For a red lip, well, there really aren’t any rules except for finding one that will last you all day long.
