The medal commemorates the defeat of the House of Stuart by the House of Hanover at the Battle of Culodeen in Scotland. The figure on the medal is William Duke of Cumberland, or Cumria. He led the forces that defeated the Stuarts who were trying to reclaim the throne lost in the Rebellion of 1688. The medal reads: William Duke of Cumbria.
