Alpaca Fur Throw Rug

Not On The High Street

The Rolls Royce of Fur throws.

Our Alpaca skins are tanned, softened and handcrafted to the highest standards. We only use ethically sourced skins from Peru from alpacas which have died of natural causes. Stunning wedding gift for the marital bed, or luxuriously draped over a sofa.

The throw looks sensational paired with the Alpaca Fur Cushion which is also available online.

Alpaca is one of the softest, most durable and insulating natural fibres in the world. It is also hypoallergenic, unlike sheepskin, and contains no lanolin, which is a known irritant to sensitive skins.

Each throw is made from lots of small pieces, carefully matched for colour, texture and shape and therefore no two throws are alike. Any colour or texture variation is part of their natural beauty.

The standard backing is a fine supple wipe-clean microfibre suede. Ivory for paler fur and chocolate for darker fur.

Our throws can also be used a floor rugs.

Usually, they are made to order and the leadtime tends to be about 3 months, but as at 1 December, we do have a couple in stock of each Ivory, Champagne, Fudge and Espresso (Brown/Black) immediately available. Please contact us for further information.

Ivory: White (this colour will vary the least)

Champagne: A biscuity, sandy colour

Fudge: A deep coppery brown

Espresso: a sumptuous rich black brown / mocha

Please note these fur throws cannot be washed. To restore the fur to former glory simply brush Dry Shampoo or Talcum Powder through the fur with a pet brush (available from any pet store).

Alpaca Fur:

The Alpaca fur used in Samantha Holmes’ products is ethically sourced. The Alpacas from which the skins are removed are not killed for their fur.

There is a tradition in Peru which has developed as a result of the death of weaker and very young Alpaca in the harsh Andean Winters. Alpaca roam freely in their natural terrain on the Altiplano of the Andes where temperatures can plummet in the Winter. The fur Samantha Holmes sources is mainly from baby Alpacas - or “cria” - which have died of natural causes.

The farmers do not kill their baby alpacas for their skins because it is not financially viable for them to do so. The skins are tiny. Alpacas can live for 20 years, promising a lifetime of shearing potential of far greater value than a single pelt.

We also offer a bespoke service where we can produce to any size. The price per square metre is £450. If required, we can also back your throw with a fabric of your choice.
