This lovely Victorian garnet brooch takes the form of a five-pointed flower or leaf - perhaps a maple leaf that has turned a brilliant shade of garnet red in the fall. The rose cut garnets are beautifully graded in size from approximately 6mm at the center down to 1mm at the tips. There is a raised, radiating, grouping of six garnets that are prong-set; the lower layer has bead-set garnets. The largest garnet at the tip of the stem has an open back, the sort of lovely, subtle, detail that shows the care with which this piece was designed. The garnets are set in unmarked, but acid tested, 800 silver.
