Pure silver is soft and easily damaged. To give it more durability when creating jewelry, it is combined with copper, which makes it sterling silver. Sterling silver is 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper alloy.

Platinum is the most durable of fine jewelry metals. It does not chip or splinter easily, making it perfect for diamond and gemstone settings. It is similar in color to white gold, but compared side by side, the difference is clear. Platinum jewelry is usually 95% pure platinum with 5% iridium or palladium alloy. It can also be 90% pure platinum with 10% iridium or palladium alloy.

The anodizing process used to create Titanium jewelry allows it to be available in a wide variety of colors. Titanium is one of the most expensive modern-metal types due to the process used in order to create the metal. This metal type is extremely light and comfortable to wear. This modern metal is very low maintenance and will outlast other metal types without the worry of it losing its shine or fading in color.

Stainless Steel

Often made without nickel, this metal type is popular among those who may have metal allergies. Stainless Steel contains a more matte finish compared to silver and gold metals with stronger lusters. Stainless Steel jewelry is very easy to care for with its tough material that is able to endure a lot of wear and tear. This metal type is able to withstand moisture without tarnish or corrosion.

Palladium is a precious metal from the platinum group, manufactured during platinum extraction. One of the whitest metals available on the market, its pure form can be used for jewelry manufacturing. You won’t experience the dulling or darkening you might find with other white metals that aren’t as pure or as white. This metal performs much like platinum, providing an extreme durability.
