Thanks to our exclusive partnership with the Blenko Glass Company, we're reissuing this c.1953 design from their archives, rendered in Blenko's proprietary color formulas. Blenko's master glassblowers blow the vessels and finials in West Virginia, and then we wire and assemble them, adding the sustainably harvested Eastern walnut bases, adjustable harps, and American-made shades. As a testament to the glassmakers' art, this lamp vessel features an "optic," a subtle texture created by blowing the hot glass into a patterned form before blowing the final shape.
Blenko has been producing richly hued, handblown glass since 1893. After decades of making stained glass for windows, the company made the significant decision to branch into tableware. With Design Directors Winslow Anderson (1947 to 1953) and Wayne Husted (1953 to 1963), Blenko began producing decanters, vases, and lamps. The voluptuous shapes and remarkable colors of these pieces made them highly collectible mid-century icons.
