Based on the original antique marble statue by Calder Marshall, English1848, The Royal collection.

William Calder Marshall (1813-1894) was born and educated in Edinburgh, Scotland. He moved to London and joined the Royal academy in 1834 and studied his craft under the famous Chantrey and Baily here and in Rome.

In 1846 the Art union awarded him a £500 bonus for producing this sculpture, and his Dancing girl marble was exhibited at the Royal academy in 1848.
