Goofus Glass Bowls, Reversed painted bowls, 1920’s bowls, painted bowls, 1920’s bowl, painted Goofus glass bowl, wedding gift, Antique
This is simply beautiful, with the vibrant colors of gray and gold with no paint loss. This oval bowl is 8” by 5 ¾”. A great display item.

Goofus glass was made from about 1900 to 1920 by many American factories. It was originally painted gold, red, green, bronze, pink, purple, or other bright colors. Many pieces are found today with flaking paint, and this lowers the value. The paint of Goofus glass was unfired and the glass itself was the first carnival glass.
Because the cold painted décor flakes off easily, it’s quite difficult to find a piece of Goofus glass in perfect condition whether the paint was applied to the outside or the inside of a piece. Some glass is even void of paint altogether. The earliest pieces of Goofus glass were reportedly undecorated. With others, the worn paint became so unsightly it was washed away by the original or subsequent owners.
