Pendleton Woolen Mills: TOADLENA BLANKET

This blanket was woven in our American mills as an homage to the weavers of the Toadlena region of New Mexico. The community of Toadlena is home to one of the Southwest's oldest, still-operating trading posts and to more than 350 years of Diné (Navajo) weaving history. There are many natural springs in the area, and the name Toadlena is thought to have come from a Navajo term meaning "water bubbling up." Weavers of the region are renowned for their fine, tightly woven textiles in natural shades of cream, tan, brown and grey. This classic design reflects the local weaving style known as Two Grey Hills, a design of geometric patterns usually based on a large, hooked central diamond with multiple geometric borders.
