Faux Fur Cossacks to Wear Now & This Fall
Ever since I laid eyes on Badgley Mischka’s NYFW runway models (aka Siberian princesses), I haven’t stopped dreaming about fur cossacks. What a beanie or wide-brim hat can’t cover or keep warm, a fur cossack can.
In case you were wondering where it all started, here’s a quick history lesson: the ultra-fabulous hat wear originated during the 13th century in the Eurasian region of Ukraine and Russia and is deeply rooted in the Soviet’s political history. They were far from fashionable accessories — instead, they were identified as being a part of the Russian army’s uniform. Of course, like military jackets and combat boots, this historical fur hat went beyond the country’s armed services and invaded the fashion world. Socialites everywhere began keeping themselves warm in these high fur hats along with their sable and mink coats.
While the furry accessory still has high-fashion value, these days, you can see street stylistas pairing their faux fur versions with slouchy boyfriend jeans and a flannel button-down for a more casual, but still sophisticated look. They have never truly gone out of fashion, but we anticipate they will be hugely popular come fall. Get ahead of the game and buy one of these faux fur cossacks from our Keep collection to wear for the rest of this frigid winter and to use again later, come September.
