How To Go Backless Anywhere--Even Work
Nothing makes a statement like a backless dress. The flash of skin as you walk by, the uninterrupted line from neck to waist, and, thanks to JLaw, the addition of a back-lace has become the icing on the vampy cake. Off-the-shoulder necklines and skin baring cut outs are making a huge comeback this year, but backless is always in season.
We have seen some amazing barely there dresses on the red carpet (remember Hillary Swank’s midnight blue Guy Laroche in 2005), but what about for daytime? Baring too much skin has always been a huge faux pas for daytime, especially work, but you know how much we love a challenge.
We went on the hunt for the keys to baring your back for day and we think we may have cracked the code. For those daring enough to incorporate a backless look into their day attire, here are a few tips for making the leap.
Layer It Up Add a little layering to the look to ease into the idea. A sheer cami or a gauzy overlay will do the trick.
Feminine Touches Keep the look feminine. If you go too edgy or too dramatic, the fact that there is no back to that shirt will come across loud and clear.
Look for Partial Coverage Find a dress or top that has decoration partially covering your back. You’ll still get the feel of backless, but you aren’t completely uncovered.
Keep It Simple A dress with too much decoration could make you look like a lady of the night, not a lady who lunches. Less is more.
