8 Ways To Embrace Wellness That’s Not Fitness
With the start of a new year comes a natural fresh start—and for a lot of people that means setting health and fitness goals...which is great. If your 2018 goal is to make it to 6am spin five days a week, more power to you. Just don’t save us a bike.
As we think about the new year and setting the right New Year’s resolution, Team Keep’s been thinking of ways to focus on wellness as a whole. And that’s what brought us to the topic of this post and a V imp reminder to us all: Wellness isn’t just fitness. Fitness is an important part of wellness, but we’re here to remind you that just because you skip out on that $35 boot camp doesn’t mean you can’t take care of your body from the inside out. Quite the opposite.
Since the very definition of wellness is “the active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life”, you better believe we’re going to better ourselves with a little self love and care...and shopping that supports those two things. What? Were you expecting something different? We might be feeling a little Zen with a new year and all, but we’re still the same shopaholics we’ve always been.
Now for the products helping us realize our wellness goals for 2018. Spoiler: this list includes some indulgences we’re more than ready to afford ourselves—and think you should too.
The Perfect Candle
What is it about a candle that instantly makes us feel better? Whatever it is, it’s magical. Lighting a candle is a teeny tiny indulgence that can totally change your headspace. Pick a scent that will vibe with your 2018 frame of mind making even the most mundane activities relaxing. And in terms of putting a price tag on wellness, a pretty cost-effective option, too. Whether you’re a Diptyque all the way girl (Fun fact: DJ Khaled is also Diptyque obsessed), you’re a LAFCO Candle girl, or a Voluspa candle girl, we’ve got you.
Since your Mom and BFF can only handle so much of your crazy before even they want to turn you over to a professional, journaling can be the best outlet for all your #feels. Your hopes, your dreams, how annoying that girl from college is that you always hate-stalk on Instagram, let it all out! Put those thoughts to paper so they’re not racing around your mind while you’re desperately trying to sleep. It’s like Gossip Girl, except your secrets are actually safe. Xoxo.
A Cute Water Bottle
We know, we know. We sound like every list of “5 Tips To A Healthier You!” post on the entire interweb. Drinking more water is obviously good for you and helps with weight loss. Obviously. It’s the part where you make yourself drink the water that’s hard. And like most things in our lives, finding a cute accessory is the answer. Yes, we mean accessory. Find a chic water bottle that will not only meet your wellness goals, but your style goals too. We’re ready to pucker up to this BKR find.
The Right Vitamins
Let us preface this with saying, the right vitamins are different for every person. And if you’re serious about upping your vitamin game, you should talk to a nutritionist about what’s right for you. But for the basics, there are tons of probiotics, hair & nail vitamins, and collagen supplements that are ideal for getting some more goodness in your everyday life. This year, I’m focusing on getting rid of all the toxins I can, so I’m giving these daily cleanse supplements a shot.
We’re basically the most Zen girls ever. Jokes. We’re just as neurotic as your average millennial...probably more. BUT, in an effort to put our wellness first this year, we’re going to give meditation a try. If you’re just getting started, this article on things to know before you start meditating is hugely helpful. The highlights: no, meditating doesn’t mean a totally clear mind and yes, it’s okay if you fall asleep. The Headspace Meditation App seems to be the place to start for beginners, so go crazy.
Is it just trendy? Does it work? We’re ready to find out. Jade rollers are inspired by Chinese medicine and are meant to leave your skin feeling younger and looking healthier. Rolling these babies on your face and neck will help boost collagen production and help flush out toxins. Hello, glowing skin! It’s never too early to start thinking about your skin’s youth, just ask anyone’s mom anywhere. Plus, for under $15, it’s absolutely worth a shot. And if that's not enough, Miranda Kerr and Karlie Kloss swear by jade rollers.
We literally had to type into Google “What’s the deal with crystals” because we kind of sort of get this wellness trend with a total A-list following, but we want to actually get it. So after doing a little digging on the seemingly hippie practice, we’re breaking it down Legally Blonde style. Crystals contain properties that create positive energy. Positive energy can improve physical and mental healing. And people who are physically and mentally healed don’t kill their husbands. And probably also live generally healthier and more fulfilled lives...but you get the idea.
Ever make a list just do you can cross things off said list to feel good about doing a task you’ve already completed? Duh, we all have. And for you list makers out there, I know you’re probably also planner junkies. There’s just no more calming feeling than starting a new planner for the new year with 365 days ahead of plans and lists to be made and completed. I swear by Emily Ley’s Simplified Planners. They calendar year planners are currently sold out, but her academic planners come out in May and are equally amazing. You also can’t go wrong with Rifle Paper Co., Kate Spade, or really any motivation planner that will help you reach your inner and outer wellness goals.
Feeling motivated yet?! We are. We’re not saying you should skip the gym entirely, but it is important to remember that your wellness means more than a lackadaisical walk on the treadmill for an hour. These picks will all contribute to your emotional wellness, which leads to your physical wellness. Okay, 2018, now we’re ready for you.
