Your 10 Kentucky Derby Essentials From Draper James

Your 10 Kentucky Derby Essentials From Draper James

The Kentucky Derby is without a doubt one of the most magnificent American traditions ever. And this Saturday, May 7th's race will definitely be incredible. Don’t tell, but we might actually like it more than the Super Bowl. Come on, don’t act surprised, Mint Juleps are obviously better than kegs of crummy light beer. Any sporting event that is equally, if not even more, about the fashion than the sport is one we can get behind. So with the help of our girl Reese, we’ve found your 10 Kentucky Derby Essentials from Draper James. Bless her heart.

  1. Floral Dress – Pretty much self-explanatory, but it just wouldn’t be a Southern event without a nice fit and flare floral dress.

  2. Statement Necklace – On the floral note, Draper James’ magnolia jewelry is so freaking beautiful. And what better day to flaunt the flower of The South? This magnolia statement necklace is amaze.

  3. Straw Hat – A straw hat is the number one accessory for derbies. It’s basically the eleventh commandment. This Draper James one is adorable and a little more structured than your average straw hat for a twist on the traditional floppy look.

  4. Cross Body Bag – The Draper James leather circle bag is the perfect size for the essentials, plus maybe a little flask for an extra Mint Juleps. Shhh….we won’t tell.

  5. Horse Shoe Paperweight – If you’re throwing a party instead of actually going to the race, this equestrian themed paperweight is the perfect thing to hold down your cocktail napkins and is totally adorable.

  6. Mint Julep Cup – It’s the drink of the event, and what better way to daintily sip your drink(s) for hours than in this silver cup especially made for the occasion?!

  7. Cocktail Shaker – You’ve got to shake that Mint Julep with something, it might as well be gorgeous.

  8. Umbrella – You never know if those May flowers will have come yet, or if we’ll still be suffering from April showers. This year, all bets are off so you’d better bring this one.

  9. Throw Blanket – It can get cold when the sun goes down, so there’s no harm in bringing a light throw to bundle up with or sit on if you find yourself watching the race from a grassy vantage point.

  10. Cowgirl Boots – It is a horse race after all! No matter how prim or proper you want to be, a good cowgirl boot is always appropriate for the celebration. Channel your inner equestrian, okay?!

Now you have your race day essentials. Whether you’re going to be in Kentucky, at a rooftop party in the city, or at a more outdoorsy venue, you need all of these for both function and fashion.
