Designer: Harry Allen Material: Resin and Marble Dimensions: 5 x 8.25 x 3 inches A thick, fibrous rope coiled and cast into a beautiful bowl. Designer Harry Allen has "sampled" from existing sources to create a series of products called REALITY. Wanting to push the boundaries of industrial design, Allen departs from the usual form-based design solutions thus offering consumers a new relationship/reality to the objects and furnishings around them. Taking objects and casting them in a new material is a practice borrowed from the art world. People are forced to re-consider that familiar object which has been cast, to look again with fresh eyes. With the detailed silicon molds and the polyester resin he cast and borrows from the world around us with precision. About the designer: Harry Allen was born in New Jersey in 1964. He attended Pratt Institute where he received a Master's Degree in Industrial Design. He established Harry Allen Design in 1993 and has created products, furnishings, interiors for a wide range of international clients. His interests in innovation and art has led to some of the most brilliant products and interiors in the world today. His awards include two Industrial Design Society of America IDEA Awards, the Brooklyn Museum of Art's Modernism/Young Designer Award. His work is part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art and the Philadelphia, Denver and Brooklyn Museums of Art.
