European baby gear has a fine reputation for smart, practical, and beautiful design, and the So-Ro Cradle from Babyhome is the latest import to grab our attention. This unique and lovely modern cradle is terrifically well thought-out and yet incredibly simple. Why didn’t we think of this first?
Created by occupational therapist Ane Lillian Tveit, the So-Ro Cradle places a rectangular bassinet between two large wooden ovals that provide both supreme stability and a gentle, easy rocking motion – just a little nudge will set the cradle into motion. The So-Ro Cradle rocks forward and backwards rather than side to side, a motion that feels like a playground swing. The creators cite studies that say that forward-rocking motion is most soothing to baby; different babies like different motions, but we know every baby loves to rock! The Babyhome So-Ro Cradle also makes a cozy, practical nest for naps, with a 1-inch foam mattress and cotton sheet included, and easy carry-handles so you can bring it from room to room as you go about your day. Baby’s head is properly elevated for good breathing, especially nice for babies with colds or stuffed noses!
And when baby outgrows the Babyhome So-Ro Cradle, you can continue to use it: Babyhome reps at our Drool Baby Expo showed us how it makes a cute child-sized table turned on its side, and we think it would also be an excellent toy box or doll cradle for an older child. Made with sturdy Baltic birch plywood with American walnut or laminated white, the So-Ro Cradle is built to last. Made in Lithuania; use from birth to six months of age.
