These earrings are hand-cut from blue polymer clay in the shape of classic heraldic shields and painted with a gold striped pattern.
In heraldry, the escutcheon, or the shield of a coat of arms, could be designed with a number of different patterns, each having a name. This striped pattern was called "paly." This particular design would be heraldically termed "paly of 6 azure and or," where azure means "blue" and "or" means "gold."
