Old typeprint, black and white photos and creamy rough pages come in a box for you to bind together into a classic themed notebook.
Start your next diary, sketchbook or writings in a book that has been designed to inspire and encourage your creativity. Rather than being faced with the normal blank white page you can enjoy putting the selection of vintage style papers into your favourite order. As well as learning a new skill take advantage of binding your own book by filling the pages before its put together so that you can choose each paper as you go and discard any mistakes along the way.
The cream, brown and black papers, old book pages and black thread binding creates a classic vintage notebook.
The vintage theme of this book starts with the cover made from an original music manuscript. Twelve pages are truly old selected from books especially for the diagrams, quirky photos or attractive fonts, use them as decorative backgrounds to stick things on or simply as statement pages. The remaining papers have been chosen to complement the aged feel, by the colours, textures and patterns.
The style of this notebook makes it particularly suitable to give as a gift to a book or music lover, journal writer, poet or artist. The formal cover and subdued colours make it a good choice for a man, and you can even request the extra manly choice of book pages!
To give the notebook a title choose a blank label to write yourself or it can be personalised with up to thirty letters using an old fashioned typewriter.
An additional feature to help inspire creativity is to add some vintage collage papers to your book kit. There are twenty pages of varying sizes (all smaller than the A5 size book) which have been plundered from particular old books because of their interesting quirky contents, plus five vintage rubber stamped images. Cut them up and use them to add visual interest. The collage papers come bound in string within the book kit box.
The book materials are paper and card. Many of the pages are re-used (book pages and wallpaper) or recycled (made from bought paper that has been collected and reprocessed).
This is what you will find in the box:
One set of instructions; a card front and back cover; two each of six themed book pages, for example from a novel, catalogue and dictionary; two each of thirteen plainer punched pages, some may be lined. A sticky back label (which can be personalised); two edge reinforcement strips to strengthen the binding; two lengths of linen thread; a strip of wire binder to help align all the holes and two pegs to use as clamps. There really is nothing else required to make the notebook.
The pages are collected, chosen, cut and punched by hand. The kits are made with love and care but the nature of the way they are made means there may be small irregularities, and some of the reused paper may be crumpled, marked or have rough edges. I think this adds character to the finished book, but if that does not appeal, this is not the book for you.
Making up the book is straightforward but has some fiddly elements. It has kept a class full of primary school children absorbed and given a sense of achievement to an elderly WI group.
The book is A5 size, H21 x W15cm, a handy size to carry with you and fit into your bag.
The box the book kit comes in fits through a letterbox aperture, H2 x W24 x D16cm.
